Rodeo- Brad Paisley

On Saturday night I went to the Rodeo with a group of my wonderful friends. It was quite fun. We saw Brad Paisley and I was quite impressed with his concert. I have always liked his songs but he is a real entertainer with a phenomenal guitar talent. I would definitely see him again. I give him two thumbs up. I also caught the rodeo (which is normally my favorite part). The highlight was the calf scramble. A poor guy got his pants split quite noticeably. It was pretty normal rodeo goodness, but I was riveted for the whole two hours, so I can't complain.

After the concert my friends and I went through the tents and scavenged dinner. I got a corn dog and it was wonderful!!! I didn't get any fried snickers this time around, but I am going to the rodeo again next Friday, I may have to get one then.

Lastly, we rode quite unsafely (kids, DON'T try this at home) in Jeff's HUGE truck for about a mile to take a few friends back to their car. It was a very enjoyable night and it ended on a squished but high note.

Love you guys... Always a blast!!!

Aid Sudan 5k

In running news, my next event will be the Aid Sudan 5k on April 5th. My church is hosting it and I could not be more excited to support the cause. All proceeds go to http://www.aidsudan.org/. Check it out and consider running with me. I am trying to get my 9th graders to run too! Should be fun!

It is 3.1 miles and I am planning on running the whole thing. I am going out on a limb and telling you all my goal is to run under an 11.00 minute/mile pace. As always, I will keep you all posted!!!

More Cowbell

I love sitting in the front of the sanctuary on Sunday mornings with my girls from youth. I enjoy fellowshiping with my girls but most of all, I like being closer to the praise and worship. I am more impacted by the praise and worship when I am closer. It may be that I maintain focus better than when I was on the balcony... But I really really enjoy sitting in the front!

However, yesterday morning I almost lost it. I was thoroughly enjoying praising the Lord with the praise band when they played a wonderful song that included a cowbell... This probably did not phase most people, but having seen the SNL skit below so many times that I practically have it memorized... I could not focus on the music. I spent the majority of the song laughing and waiting for the dude playing the cowbell to start dancing around on the stage... I assure you he did not move one step... But my spirit of worship was hindered during the song. I did manage to grow up for the rest of the set, but man... they need to warn me when they bring out the cowbell... I am clearly not mature enough to handle it!

Expelled

A good friend sent me a link to this movie a few weeks ago and I just got around to looking at it today. The movie opens April 18, 2008 and is about creationism. It looks very thought provoking and interesting. Enjoy:

Rodeo Run

I completed my first 10k today! I am feeling pretty good at the moment, but I finished less than an hour ago. I fear I may be sore later tonight and tomorrow. The race started at 9:45am and it was HOT! Which is about all I can say about the race... I don't know enough about running to know if the course was a good one, but there were two inclines that I wasn't so happy about.

I finished in 1:20:50.60 which means I paced 13 minute/miles. I am not happy about that, but I was having a lot of trouble motivating myself to run. Next time I will have a more stringent goal than finishing. Hopefully that will provide a little more motivation to actually run. But in general, I am glad to have one 10k under my belt!

The Wizard of Love

Possibly the funniest retreat skit I have ever seen.

In Training News...

I have been training fervently for the 10k this weekend and today... I FEEL IT!!! For the last three days I have run three miles! It may not sound all that impressive, but for me, it is a milestone. I even managed to be relatively consistent in my timing (not all that fast, my fastest pace was 11.10 minute/miles), which encourages me. However, I fear my zeal may have gotten me into trouble. I am sore today, so much so that my attempts at walking are humorous! I have two days to rest up before the 10k and you will all be happy to know I don't plan to run again until Saturday morning, that is if I can walk by then. ;)

Multistate Professional Responsiblity Examination

That's right ladies and gentlemen, this weekend I began studying the ethics of lawyering. I am taking the MPRE on March 8th and am in the processing of "learning" the model rules of professional conduct and their application. I must pass this test before I can be admitted to the Texas bar. Thus, for the next few weeks I fear I will be vacant from blogsville (other than posting about the 10k I am participating in this weekend... My first one... I am SO EXCITED). Please pray for me as I try to juggle work, school, studying for this exam and friends. I think the next two weeks will be a brief glimpse into what studying for the Bar is going to be like... and I am scared!!!

If anyone is wondering what sort of information is on the MPRE, here are a few random tid-bits:

  • An attorney cannot co-mingle their funds with their client's funds
  • Attorneys cannot draft documents (like wills) in which the client gives the lawyer or his relatives a substantial gift, except when the client is a relative.
  • An attorney may withdraw from representation for any reason if withdrawal does not have a material adverse effect on client's interest or the client consents.
  • Contrary to what you may see on TV, sexual relationships with clients that are not pre-existing to the representation are subject to discipline.

This by no means scratches the surface of what I have to learn, but I included some of the more interesting rules. I am sure you are riveted. I bet you are wishing you could take the MPRE too. Haha!

High School Retreat

This weekend was the high school retreat for HFBC and I was very blessed to lead a group of 9th grade girls. My group consisted of three girls from my sunday school group and two girls from another group. Without going into a ton of detail the weekend was AMAZING. The girls were open, honest and real which was my main prayer going into the retreat. I have attached some random pictures from the weekend. The last picture is of me and the three girls from my Sunday school group in case you were wondering which ones were my girls.

Peas

Last Sunday I went to the Woodlands to visit Jacki and the kids. It had been a little over a month since I had seen them and surprise, surprise, they are growing. Jacob is starting on solid foods. I was there for the first vegetable, peas. I have never been a fan of peas myself, but he sure enjoyed them.

Jessica is still only saying a few words, but she has her baby sign language down. I took her for a walk and she saw a dog and started doing the sign for dog. It is a funny sign so needless to say it was cute to watch. I am really looking forward to when she can actually talk, which shouldn't be long! As always, (and like any good "aunt") I have attached a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.
