Surf Sandwich

Wednesday
I was on my own again and decided that Wednesday was a great day to conquer surfing once again... but this time without a teacher. I slept in then headed to Waikiki for lunch with Tiffany before I hit the waves. After lunch I managed to find a parking spot in Waikiki (a minor miracle in and of itself) and rent a board in record time. I was feeling pretty confident as I headed out but it only took a few minutes for me to realize my zeal and instinct a few days earlier had been a classic case of beginners luck and surfing was, in fact, harder than I had hoped. The waves were either huge or non-existent but I did manage to catch a few waves in my hour of board time. The only problem was the beach was so crowded that I had to jump off several times for fear of hitting surfers sitting on their boards down-wave. The last wave was undoubtedly the most significant because another boarder ended up surfing on top of me.... My body was the meat of a surf board sandwich. I was laying on my board ready to pop up as I caught the wave and then all of a sudden I was pinned to my board by another board.... ummmmm.... this was not mentioned in my lesson... what now.... luckily the other boarder was proficient at boarding and he managed to get off of me rather quickly and I got up and rode the rest of the wave in, but it was certainly a interesting ending to my Waikiki surfing experience.

After surfing I met up with Tiffany and David and took them to Yard House for dinner. Sadly we do not have one in Texas, because it was phenomenal. All you fish fans would be happy to know I branched out and ate some local fare. I had Ono and it was fresh and tasty. If you do find a Yard House on the main land, I recommend the (Mac & Cheese)2. Tiffany ordered it and it is quite possibly the best thing I have ever tasted (it was so good, I am not even worried about overplaying it)! David really liked his meal as well but it was shellfishy so I did not partake... But I give the restaurant two very energetic thumbs up.... Find one if you can!!!

I treated them to dinner to thank them for housing, feeding, entertaining and putting up with me for two whole weeks (thanks again by the way Tiff and David... and I know it doesn't even begin to make up for your amazing generosity and hospitality). Never before have I "picked up the tab" for multiple people. I mean I have paid here and there for a friend (normally to repay them for something they had previously purchased for me) but since I have been on a poor students budget as long as I can remember, I have yet to really treat anyone to a substantial meal for any reason. I liked it! It made me feel kinda grown up... and I didn't mind... who knew?!?!
